McDonald’s has said that Connaught Plaza Restaurants Ltd (CPRL) will not be authorized to use its brand name and trademark starting from September 6, 2017. Along with 169 McDonald's outlets are also going to shut down across the entire region of north and east.
“The termination notice period ends on September 5. Therefore, CPRL is no longer authorized to use the McDonald's system and its intellectual property. It means they need to stop using the McDonald's names, trademarks, designs, branding, operational and marketing practice and policies, and food recipes and specifications. We are proceeding with exercising our legal and contractual rights,” a McDonald’s India spokesperson said.
The store's owners also send the notices to CPRL regarding shutting down the 169 outlets.
Also, Bakshi said that " sudden closure of store is definitely going to hurt many people lives, directly and indirectly, this step will going to damage over 10,000 lives".
“If the brand name can no longer be used in those stores, we will obviously be looking for new tenants. We can’t have a situation where stores in plum locations lie vacant,” said a senior official at DLF quoted in the report.
