The President Pranab Mukherjee yesterday promulgated the ordinance legalising the traditional 'Kambala' sport. He has approved the promulgation of the prevention of cruelty to animals (Karnataka Amendment) Ordinance, 2017 and now it has been legal in Karnataka.
It is the folk sport that starts in November and lasts until March which is held traditionally under the auspices local landlords and households in Karnataka.
Earlier in February, the Karnataka Government had passed an amendment bill in the state Assembly to legalise the traditional buffalo race Kambala.
