Chandigarh engineering department will now decorate Capitol Complex with lotus flowers. It has been directed by the Union Minister of State, Shripad Yesso Naik during his visit on June 11 to the Chandigarh administration to use lotus flower, symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to decorate the Complex for the International Yoga Day event that will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 21.

The minister had asked UT adviser Parimal Rai to fill both the pools in front of Assembly, where the main stage is to be set up, with lotus flowers.

To supply around 1,000 flowers in white and pink colours, department approached a city-based nursery, Filedman Nursery.

Due to unavailability of lotus in the region during the ongoing season, Rahul Mahajan, owner of the nursery, said that they would have to get the flowers from either Maharashtra or Bengaluru.

To make the flowers float at one place, the workers were seen tying small pieces of brick on the roots as well as to make the flowers last long, the department will have to put soil at the base of the pool.
