High Court rejects plea against Dhirubhai Ambani

May 26, 2016: Delhi High Court on Thursday declined to amuse a petition seeking direction to quash the govt announcement conferring Padma Vibhushan award in 2016 to late Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries Ltd.

G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath, from the bench, released the plea saying no public interest was concerned in the petition and it was filed to malign the person.

Bench said, "How public interest is involved in this? This is not public interest litigation. It is to malign the person. It does not require consideration”.

P C Srivastava,filed the petition  has also necessary a way to Kokilaben Ambani, wife of Dhirubhai, to return the sanad and decoration of Padma Vibhushan which she had received on behalf of her husband.

In the plea, the petitioner has alleged that Dhirubhai had not "rendered any exceptional and distinguished service" for which he was conferred with the award.
