IAS officer Ajay Tyagi appointed as Sebi New Chief for 5 year

On Friday, IAS officer Ajay Tyagi appointed as new chief of Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to succeed U K Sinha whose extended tenure ends on March 1.At present Tyagi is the Additional Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs and also handle capital markets among others.

On Friday Government notify, "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Shri Ajay Tyagi,  IAS, additional secretary, department of economic affairs to the post of Chairman, Securities &  Exchange Board of India for a period not exceeding 05 years or till the age of 65 years or until  further orders,whichever is the earliest".

Tyagi Education: 58-year-old Tyagi is posting Graduate in Economics and Bachelor degree in electronics. He did his Maters in  Public Administration from Harvard and also Master in Technology (Computer Science) degree.

Before joining Finance Ministry on November 1, 2014, he was working as Joint Secretary in Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

After the news that Mr. Sinha is leaving at the end his term, several senior IAS officers applied for this high profile job.Sebi chairman gets a package of Rs 4.5 lakh per month.
