President Donald Trump's son Donald Trump Jr, son-in-law Jared Kushner and former campaign manager Paul Manafort have been summoned to appear before U.S. Senate committees next week to answer questions about the campaign's alleged connections to Russia, officials said on Wednesday.

The event comes as a ramification of emails revealed by Trump Jr. on Twitter less than two weeks ago that showed him eagerly agreeing to meet last year with a Russian government lawyer who claimed to have ‘incriminating information’ against Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

The meeting was also attended by Manafort and Kushner, who is now a senior adviser at the White House.

The emails included the aide stating, “This is obviously very high-level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr Trump.” In response to which Trump Jr responded: “If it’s what you say, I love it,”

In addition to the three, the hearing is also set to include testimony from Glenn Simpson, the head of research for the firm Fusion GPS, and Bill Browder, an investor who has long been active in pushing for increased sanctions on Russia. Simpson’s firm produced the infamous Steele dossier on Trump’s contacts with Russia, which was first published in January.
