‘Khichdi’, the traditional food of North India is all set to be promoted as ‘brand India food’ during the World Food India 2017 expo. The traditional dish - enjoyed by each and every class of Society- has been preferred since it symbolizes the nation’s unity in diversity.

As giving the name to it the "queen of all foods", Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the Minister of Food Processing Industries of India has made plans to internationally sponsor Khichdi as "healthy, luscious, reasonably priced and trouble-free". As if that wasn’t good enough, the super event will also have some of the crowning chefs of India cooking 800 kg of khichdi to make a Guinness World Record in the nation’s biggest-ever global food expo on November 4 in Delhi. An oversize ‘kadhai’ (frying pan) of the capacity of 1,000 liters and 7 feet in diameter will be carried to prepare ‘Khichdi’ for slow steam-cooking.

Well-known chef Sanjeev Kapoor has been led as the brand ambassador of the Great India Food Street for the three-day occasion starting November 3, being planned by Food Processing Ministry along with CII. The cooked khichdi will be distributed to almost 60,000 orphan children as well as all the guests present for this occasion. It will also be distributed to all chief of Foreign Missions in India along with the recipe.

Brand India Khichdi’s ingredients and the recipe will be promoted by Indian Foreign Missions across the world. The government will make sure that Khichdi is easily available in restaurants and kitchens around the world, an official statement asserted.
