Antlers are the skulls of deer family, antlers are only grown upon male deer as they are the primary sexual character in male deer. The deer with huge antler is more sexually attractive for hinds(female deer). As well as signifying sexual characters, antlers are also used as a weapons to control fights.

Let me explain you the difference between antlers and horns, antlers are the additional horns which grows as a bud over skull of deer. Antlers get shredded after a period of time. While, horns are permanent and do not get shredded. Ancestors of deer were having tusk instead of antlers, tusks were weaker than antlers  and as time passed, due to mutation, antlers replaced tusks.

Each antler grows through the point of attachment of the skull, antlers need special kinds nutrients for growth. When they get shredded, we humans use these antlers for carving as a decorative of our house. Here are some of the carved antlers' pictures which are unique and beautiful.
