New Delhi: The Congress Party has presented a clarification on allegations of receiving money from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) and the Choksi firm to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF). The Congress has said that the RGF received a small sum of Rs 20 lakh from the PMNRF in the year 2005-06, which was used for relief work in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Apart from this, no money was received from PMNRF.

With this, the Congress Party has rejected the claim of receiving donations from Mehul Choksi. The Congress said that neither any donation was received from Mehul Choksi personally nor did the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation give him any loan. It is on the record of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation that in 2013, a nominal fund of Rs 10 lakh was received from Naviraj Estates Private Limited, one of the directors was Mehul Choksi.

Actually, National President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), J.J. P. Nadda had raised a lot of questions on the Congress regarding the funding of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and its relationship with China. Attacking the Congress, BJP President Nadda had asked that why did the PM National Relief Fund, which is meant to serve the people and provide relief to them, go to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation by the year 2005-08? The people of the country want to know the answer.
