New Delhi: Bishop Franco Mulakkal, accused in the Kerala nun rape case, has approached the apex court. Mulakkal has requested the court that the charges against him be dropped. On the other hand, the Kerala government and the aggrieved nuns, while filing a cavity in the Supreme Court, have said that their decision must be heard before giving any verdict. The next hearing in this case will be held on August 5.

It is noteworthy that the Kerala High Court, in a hearing on 7 July, expressly refused to give relief to Mulakkal. The High Court has considered Mulakkal as a prima facie accused. After this, the bishop has reached the Supreme Court. A few days ago a non-bailable warrant was issued against him. With this, his bail has also been revoked. In view of this, he has requested relief from the top court.

Let us tell you many, in the year 2018, an incident came to light in Kottayam district in which a nun had filed a complaint against Bishop Franco Mulakkal. The nun had said that the bishop raped her in the year 2014-16. Later on 21 September 2018, SIT investigating the case had arrested Mulakkal. Franco Mulakkal has been charged with hostage-rape, unnatural sex. He was granted bail on 16 October 2018.
