Kochi: Kerala Police busted a brothel in Perumbavoor town. The brothel was being operated in a rented home. According to the reports a total of eight people, including three women, were arrested by police personnel on charges of engaging in illegal solicitation and prostitution. The arrests were the result of an extensive operation by the Perumbavoor police.

A senior official said that the city police got a tip-off from residents of the locality where the home is situated. Locals grew suspicious of young men frequently visiting the house and informed local police who raided the home and arrested eight persons, he added. Those in police custody are the owner of the brothel house, four customers and three women.
The main accused was identified as Syam Kumar, aged 41. He had rented out the home by claiming to run a tile business and displayed tiles on top of the building as an identifier for clients or potential clients. As per the sources, Kumar brought the customers via agents. Four customers who were arrested during the raid were 23-year-old Mathai, 29-year-old Rajeesh, 29-year-old Anilkumar, and 49-year-old Joyson. Meanwhile, the women arrested during the raid have been identified as Priya, aged 39, Rasheeda, aged 52 and Smisha, aged 24.
This incident came to light less than a month after the Kerala police suspected the role of an alleged sex racket in the murder of a woman whose body was found in a decaying state in state capital Thiruvananthapuram in February of this year. Investigators had told media outlets that the woman's body was fished out by the Auva rural police, adding that the body had several blankets and a heavy stone attached to it in order to prevent it from floating.
