New Delhi: BSP supremo Mayawati has opposed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)'s decision to hike exam fees. She has called for the withdrawal of the decision, terming it as racist and anti-poor. In a tweet on Tuesday, Mayawati said that recently CBSE has increased the examination fee for 10th and 12th by 24 times, under which the S.C.S.T. Students will have to pay Rs 1200 instead of Rs 50.

Similarly, fees for general class students have also been increased by double. In a tweet, Mayawati said, it is a very unfortunate, anti-racist and anti-poor decision. CBSE should withdraw it immediately. It may be mentioned that in the recent past, the CBSE has approved the SC/ST.

It has decided to increase the examination fee for ST students. SC/ST ST students will now have to pay a fee of Rs 1200 instead of Rs 50. Board examination fees for SC (AC) and ST students have been increased 24 times. The fees of general class students have also been increased twice. Now they will have to pay a fee of Rs 1,500 instead of Rs 750.

On the other hand, for the 10th Board Examination, students are required to register in Class IX and 11th standard for the Class XII Board Examination. However, when questioned about the fee hike, the CBSE was clear that it had not hiked the fee. The CBSE used to charge only Rs 750 from all classes of students till now.
