New Delhi: On Monday, petrol prices rose across four metro cities in the country while diesel became costlier, too. Petrol prices in all the metro cities increased by 5 paise per litre on Monday while diesel became dearer by 6-7 paise. Petrol prices in New Delhi were hiked by 5 paise to Rs 70.33 a litre on Monday as against Rs 70.28 on Sunday. Diesel in the national capital became costlier by 6 paise to Rs 65.62 as compared to Rs 65.56 yesterday.

Citizens in Kolkata have to shell out Rs 72.44 for a litre of petrol after a 5 paise increase over Sunday’s rate. A litre of diesel costs Rs 67.40 in Kolkata, 6 paise costlier than yesterday's rate of Rs 67.34. Retail petrol price in Chennai was increased by 5 paise to Rs 73, from Rs 72.95 recorded on Sunday. Diesel prices were increased by 7 paise from yesterday’s rate price of Rs 69.25 a litre. In Mumbai, petrol is retailing at Rs 75.97, 5 paise increase than Sunday’s rate of Rs 75.92  while diesel price climbed to Rs 68.71, 6 paise more than yesterday's price of Rs 68.65 a litre, according to data from Indian Oil Corporation website. In Noida, a litre of petrol costs Rs 70.25 while diesel costs Rs 64.85. In Gururgram, petrol costs Rs 71.26 and diesel Rs 65.44.

Earlier, in October 2018, retail petrol price had climbed to Rs 84 a litre in Delhi and it crossed the Rs 91 mark in Mumbai. In the international oil market, crude prices dropped by more than 1 per cent on Monday amid US drilling activity picked up. International Brent crude oil futures were trading at USD 61.39 per barrel, down 71 cents, or 1.1 per cent, from their last close.
