Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union Territory town bounded by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state.

This place has a lot to offer and will make it a fun-filled and enjoyable holiday.

Pondicherry has quite a few beaches. If you want to spend some quiet and peaceful time, you must visit the Paradise beach, Auro Beach, Sangamam Beach or Chunnambar beach.

Raj Niwas in Pondicherry is the official residence of Lieutenant Governor. This is one of the most important building which served as a palace during the French Colonization. This place is well known for its parks and gardens along with sculptures from the medieval and contemporary era.

The Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry is a place where people come to seek spiritual harmony and get enlightened. The ashram can be visited from 8 in the morning to 12 noon, or from 2 in the afternoon to 6 in the evening.

Take a heritage walk around the Boulevards of Pondicherry, which presents you with three different kinds of architecture – The White Town or French Area, The Tamil Square and the Muslim Square.

The churches in Pondicherry are a must visit.

-The Sacred Heart Church is a specimen of gothic splendour. It contains rare and beautiful stained glass panels depicting saints and events from the life of Christ.

-The Immaculate Conception Cathedral on the Cathedral Street, was first built in 1692. It took its present shape in 1791.

-Our Lady of Angels Church is notable for its masonry and prayer mass are done in French, which makes this church quite unique.

Even for the casual visitor, Auroville is an enchanting place. Several workshops and therapies in and around the area help people get over their personal demons and be at peace once again.
