Retired marine corps General, James Mattis is been nominated by the US-President to takover the responsibility of Pentagon. James Mattis, 66 year old who retired in 2013 as the Commander of the US Command, is said to be nominated as the Defence Secretary by Donald Trump while addressing a rally.

Richard Fontaine, president of the Center for a New American Security said that "Mattis is defense intellectual and as a military leader who distinguished himself in combat".
“He knows the Middle East, South Asia, NATO and other areas and has evinced both a nuanced approach to the wars we’re in and an appreciation for the importance of allies,”. “If he were to get the nomination, I suspect that he could attract a number of very talented people to work with him.”he added.

Although his selection has gathered few doubts, as being an army commander how correct it will be for James Mattis to take more open and diplomatic decisions in terms of international matters. Also the congress needs to get approval from legislation as it is out of rules to appoint a retired General for the post of US secretary  within seven yars of his retirement.
