A day after the Republic Day holiday, the rupee opened 11 paise down at 68.18 against dollar . The local currency was trading 14 paise down at 68.21 against dollar.
The BSE Sensex opened 52.89 points, or 0.19 per cent, up at 27,761, while NSE Nifty opened 7.75 points, or 0.09 per cent, up at 8,610.50.
On Wednesday, rupee settled at 8 paise higher at 68.07 against dollar. On the same day, Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 110.50 crore.
