Muktagiri shrine is situated at the Malwa district of Madhya Pradesh. This place is famous for its unimaginable natural phenomena- sandal rain. Local people of Malwa say that sandal rain occurs every year at 'ashtami and choudas' and these days are popularly known as the name of 'Medhagiri'.

'Medhagiri' festival have very exciting history, according to the local saints of this place, " Thousands of years ago, when a saint was meditating near the temple and suddenly, a ram fallen from the top of the mountain. The Ram was deeply hurt and just after a minute saint foreseen his death, saint decided to chant some holy words in its ears.

As he chanted those 'mantra' in Ram's ear, its soul transitioned to paradise. Since that day this place is customed to have a sandal rain every year."
