The Supreme Court today sentenced Gopal Ansal to one-year jail imprisonment in his relation with the Uphaar Fire Tragedy in which 59 people lost their life.
The bench led by Justice Ranjan Gogoi, including Justices Kurian Joseph and Adarsh Kumar passed the order.
The court was hearing the petition filed by the CBI and the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy seeking a review of its August 19, 2015, decision to let off Gopal and his elder brother Sushil Ansal on payment of a fine of Rs 30 crore each in lieu of a jail term.
Back in 18 years ago, in 1997 the fire broke out in the theater in which 59 people died and many suffered injuries.
