Sugar production in the nation ascended by 11 for every penny to 53.29 lakh tons till December 15 in the 2016-17 season that began from October, however, deals were down attributable to demonetization, industry body ISMA said today.
Sugar yield remained at 47.93 lakh tons in a similar period a year ago, it said in an announcement.

In Maharashtra, the main sugar producing states, the yield was lower at 17.25 lakh tons in the initial two and half months of the ebb and flow season, when contrasted and 22.50 lakh tons in a similar period relating year.
The yield in Gujarat too was lower at 2.40 lakh tons as against 3.32 lakh tons, while Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu delivered 1,00,000 tons, marginally higher than the year-back period.
On the effect of demonetization on sugar deals, ISMA said, "Sugar despatches from plants have been influenced because of fall in sugar request from mass shoppers including sweet creators mostly as a result of lack of money in the market."
Despite the fact that sugar deals in November were nearly at the year-back level, advertise sources propose that sugar deals in the main fortnight of December have been "seriously influenced" and that discouraged request may proceed till January 2017, it said.
Add up to sugar deals in the 2016-17 season could stay on a lower level of 245 to 250 lakh tons, it said.
