Researchers from the University of Illinois found that there are some plants that can produce the oil in abundance. Scientists say that Sugarcane can be genetically operated to produce the fuel and in future, it can be used as a fuel for the cars.
Vijay Singh, Director of the Integrated Bioprocessing Research Laboratory stated, "The oil composition is comparable to that obtained from other feedstocks like seaweed or algae that are being engineered to produce oil."
Stephen Long, one of the researchers from the laboratory said, "However, we found that the plant can produce more oil without loss of sugar production, which means our plants may ultimately be even more productive than we originally anticipated."
