Along with keeping their bodies healthy, people want to keep their minds sharp as they age. They also want to avoid brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. Currently, Alzheimer’s disease has no known cure, but recent research results are raising hopes that someday it might be possible to delay, slow down, or even prevent this devastating disease.

Eat right Eat well: A healthy and well-balanced diet helps keep the brain healthy, because it improves heart health, and a healthy heart provides the brain with plenty of oxygen-rich blood. Heart disease risk scores have been closely linked to the likelihood of cognitive decline. Include omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins C, D, E and B.

Take folic acid supplements: Avoid foods that contain high levels of homocysteine may be associated with poor cognitive function. Reducing homocysteine with folic acid may increase cognitive function.

Minimize intake of saturated and trans fats: These are bad fats that increase blood cholesterol levels, which can cause Alzheimer's disease. People consuming saturated fat have a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.Exercise for an hour: Include aerobic exercise in your routine, equivalent to 40 minutes of brisk walking, three times per week.

Avoid cooking/use of aluminum containers: aluminum may contribute to cognitive problems. Instead, opt for stainless steel or cast iron cookware.A glass of wine is good: Components in grape skins protect brain cells from the toxic effect. Drink a glass of red wine with your meal.

Keep your brain active: Individuals who remain mentally, physically and socially active and engage in a wide range of different activities throughout their lives are less likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s.
