12 dead, More than Dozen injured in Mexico highway accident

Authorities say a passenger van collided on a highway in the Mexican state of Jalisco, killing 12 people and injuring 11.

According to media sources, the car toppled on the Leon-Aguascalientes highway in the town of Lagos de Moreno on Saturday, according to the Jalisco Civil Protection and Fire Department. According to Neftali Guillen, regional head of the state civil protection agency, the disaster killed eight men and four women, two of whom were minors.

Guillen stated in a video issued by the department that the collision did not result in the closure of any parts of the highway, but he advised extra caution when travelling through the region until the accident investigation is concluded. Last year, 1,015 people died in road accidents in Jalisco, which ranks third in Mexico for traffic fatalities.
