Baghdad: Rare twin suicide bombing attack was recorded in Iraq's capital. According to information, at least 19 people were killed and more than 30 wounded in a Baghdad market today. The Iraqi military said, rupturing months of relative calm. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for such a suicide attack. Such suicide bombings have been rare in the Iraqi capital since the defeat of the Islamic State in 2017. The last attack took place in January 2018. The health ministry said it had mobilized medics across the capital to respond to the deadly attack. The Iraqi military said there were two attackers who were wearing explosive vests blew themselves up among shoppers at a crowded market in Tayaran Square in central Baghdad. Security forces cordoned off the area and paramedics were working to help the casualties. An interior ministry spokesman told Reuters the death toll was at least 19. Numbers are expected to rise as some wounded were in critical condition. Since the defeat of the Islamic State in 2017 Iraq's capital, Baghdad has not witnessed almost any such attacks since Iraqi forces and a US-backed coalition drove. The last deadly suicide blast recorded in the Iraqi capital was in January 2018, also at Tayaran Square, where at least 27 were killed.
