170 trains cancelled in 3 days, loss of Rs 100 crore

Ranchi: The rail chakka jam agitation of the Kurmi community at two places in West Bengal continued for the third day on Thursday. In 3 days, 170 passenger trains have been cancelled due to line jams. At the same time, the railways have suffered a loss of 100 crores. Due to this movement, passengers of Chakradharpur, Kharagpur, Ranchi and Adra railway divisions of three states West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand are suffering every day. Five trains running through Ranchi railway division were cancelled for the second day on Thursday.

On the other hand, the South Eastern Railway zone has suffered a loss of more than Rs 100 crore in passenger tickets and freight. On the other hand, two thousand tickets from the Chakradharpur railway division have been cancelled by passengers in three days. Passengers are creating ruckus every day due to the cancellation of trains at Tatanagar station. People are demanding the status of the Scheduled Tribe to the Kurmi caste and the inclusion of the Kurmali language in the Eighth Schedule. Due to the line jam, express and local trains of many routes have been cancelled in the up-down from Kharagpur, Adra and Chakradharpur divisions, while 42 long-distance trains have been diverted and five trains were terminated in Tatanagar alone. Due to this, the Chakradharpur division has suffered a loss of more than Rs 65 lakh in ticket refunds and more than 15 lakh in the sale of general tickets.

Ranchi-Howrah, Adra-Barkakana-Adra MEMU Passenger, Hatia-Kharagpur Express and Bokaro Steel City-Asansol-Bokaro Steel City MEMU passengers were cancelled due to chakka jam. Apart from this, Howrah-Ranchi Intercity Express was also cancelled. Kharagpur-Ranchi-Kharagpur Express had partial termination at Adra station. This train was cancelled between Adra-Ranchi-Adra. Apart from this, Kharagpur-Hatia MEMU Express was also cancelled between Adra and Hatia.
