Kabul: At least 19 people were killed and 16 others were injured in the south and west of Afghanistan due to heavy snowfall and flooding in the last 24 hours. Talking to the media, Tamim Azimi, a spokesperson of the country's National Disaster Management Ministry, said that heavy snowfall started on Saturday and is likely to continue in at least 21 of the country's 34 provinces, while heavy rains are expected in the remaining areas. Is expected, especially in the south.
Local government spokesperson Bahir Ahmadi has said that eight people have died in accidents in south Kandahar province due to the roof collapse of their houses. The dead include four women, three children and a male. The other 13 villagers are said to be injured. The local government held an emergency meeting to discuss humanitarian aid in the region. In a separate incident in neighboring Helmand province, three villagers died and three others were injured due to the floods.
Officials in the western province of Herat have said that eight people died in three separate cases of roof collapse due to heavy rains in Adraskan, Enzil and Shindand. Zeylani Farhad, spokesman for the Governor of Herat, told the media that, "All roads and highways are currently closed due to heavy snowfall in some districts between the capital and Herat and other provinces."
