Vijay Diwas: Who are missing 54? Read the painful truth of the 1971 war

Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of the country in 1971 when Pakistan attacked Bangladesh (then East Pakistan). Indira Gandhi is considered to have played a major role in liberating Bangladesh. But very few people would know that 93,000 Pakistani soldiers and civilians were arrested by The Indian Army in this war. The number of Pakistani soldiers was 81,000 and the number of civilians was 12,000.

But after this war, Indira Gandhi sent all those prisoners of war back to Pakistan.  However, no agreement was reached to free 54 Indian soldiers captured by Pak during the same war. These 54 soldiers are still called Missing 54 in the country. Out of these 54 soldiers, 30 were army soldiers and 24 were Air Force soldiers. I wish a leader had taken the initiative at that time, like 'Abhinandan', those 54 sons of Mother Bharati would have returned and perhaps the Kashmir problem would have been solved in exchange for the release of 93,000 Pakistani soldiers.

Greetings and tributes to all Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 war and 54 brave soldiers arrested by Pak. Jai Hind Jai Bharat.
