2G Spectrum controversy that caused jerk to Karunanidhi's image

M Karunanidhi was one of the most sought-after politicians of Tamil Nadu but for some incidents, his life and image got surrounded by a lot of controversies.

When the 2 G Spectrum case was exposed, the Kalaignar was drawn into the controversy and suffered a great jerk to his image.

The CBI, in its reports, revealed that his daughter Kanimozhi holds 20% share in the Kalaignar TV owned by her family.

Kanimozhi’s foster mother Dayalu has a 60% share of the TV channel.

The reports informed that Kanimozhi was the mastermind behind the control of the channel and she had collaborated with the erstwhile telecom minister A. Raja. Their collaboration managed to grab DB Realty promoter Shahid Balwa at a worth of ₹2 billion (US$29 million) for the Kalaignar TV.

She was in a continuous contact with A Raja relating to her interest of getting the channel started and other stuff.

A Raja had helped her in various ways like registering it from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and approaching a DTH operator like TATA Sky for the same.

She was arrested in the year 2011, under the charges criminal conspiracy to cause criminal breach of trust by a public servant, criminal conspiracy under section 120-B, cheating under section 420 & forgery under sections 468 and 471. She was finally booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Such controversies led to a decline in the image and reputation of Karunanidhi.
