3 patients lost their lives in Dhaka's medical college, fire in hospital

Three patients of COVID-19 lost their lives after a fire broke out in the intensive care unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday. Zia Rahman from fire and civil defense FS&CD headquarters told Dhaka Tribune, "The fire broke out at around 8 a.m. at the Corona Dedicated ICU Centre on the third floor of the DMCH's new building." Qazi Golam Mustafa (63), Abdullah Al Mahmood (48), and Kishore Chandra Roy (68) were on ventilators.

"After receiving the information, five fire tenders were dispatched to the spot and the fire was controlled. Smoke spread within the premises because of the fire. We had to break the windows to save the patients. Icu patients have been evacuated safely," he said.

Continuing, he said that there were 14 patients in the ICU when the incident took place. Dmhc Director, MD Nazmul Haque said that the patients were taken to the wards of the nearby building. "Three patients died in the accident," he said.
