Washington: More than 30 civil society organizations around the world passed a joint resolution on Thursday urging the US State Department to put India in the category of 'Country of Particular Concern- CPC' in religious matters. At the same time, there is a demand to ban those who promote religious bias and open harassment of non-Hindus in India. The proposal was reportedly introduced during the first-ever International Religious Freedom Summit in the US. Leaders of various religions who joined it attacked the Biden administration to avoid criticism from the Government of India. Tell us that any country with special concern can be given the status only by the US Secretary of State, only when serious cases of religious freedom violations come to light in that country. If the US Secretary of State declares a country as a country of special concern in religious matters, this is also communicated to the US Parliament. US lawmakers then pressure such countries to maintain religious freedom through economic and non-economic sanctions.
