Ahmedabad: Voting is underway in 89 seats over 19 districts of Saurashtra-Kutch and southern parts of the state for the first phase of Gujarat Assembly elections. 25,393 polling booths have been set up for the first phase of polling. Voting will continue from 8 am to 5 pm. With this, the fate of 788 candidates will be recorded in EVMs today. As many as 339 independents are also trying their luck in the first phase. The results will be declared on December 8. Voting for the first phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections is being held today in 89 seats over 19 districts of Saurashtra-Kutch and southern parts of the state. In the 2017 elections, the BJP won 48 of these seats, while the Congress won 40 seats. Gujarat recorded a 34.48 percent voter turnout till 1 pm. The voter turnout in the state was 18.95 percent till 11 am. The highest voter turnout in the state has been recorded in Tapi district, where 46.35 percent voting has been recorded till 1 pm, while Porbandar has recorded the lowest turnout of 30.20 percent. Earlier, Team India's star cricketer Ravindra Jadeja arrived to offer prayers at the temple before casting his vote. He was accompanied by his wife Rivaba Jadeja.
