5 patient died from shortage of oxygen in Haryana, anger erupted

Chandigarh: People protested at a hospital in Hisar district of Haryana this morning following the death of five coronavirus patients. The family members of the deceased alleged that the deaths were due to lack of medical oxygen. This is the third such incident in the state in the last 24 hours. Four patients succumbed to their injuries at a private hospital in Gurgaon on Sunday.

Four patients died in Rewari, a hospital about 330 km from the state capital Chandigarh, and the cause of their death is said to be a lack of oxygen. A district-level inquiry has been ordered in both cases. Following the alarming rise in corona cases in India, SoS has been issued by several hospitals in Delhi over the shortage of oxygen. 25 patients lost their lives in a hospital in the national capital on Friday due to low oxygen pressure.

Haryana, like other parts of the country, is witnessing a sharp increase in covid cases. More than 10,000 cases have been reported in the state in the last 24 hours, increasing the caseload to 4.24 lakh. Haryana Chief Secretary Vijai Vardhan on Sunday ordered deputy commissioners to set up a committee of senior officers to deal with allocation and supply of medical oxygen to all government and private hospitals in their districts.
