5 reasons why self-defense is important for EVERYONE?

In today’s world, knowing how to take care of yourself mentally, physically and financially is very crucial for every individual. Presently, we hear stories about rape (victims, both males and females), molestation, acid attacks, verbal sexual assaults, etc almost everyday. We teach our kids that the ‘outside’ world is not safe and therefore we should prevent ourselves from being in certain situations.

For women in India, the list of restrictions is probably more in number than the chapters in The Bible. Now, instead of restricting our kids and keeping them under boundations, we should teach them how to survive and fight back under these situations. This article is going to enlighten you with reasons of WHY self-defense is important and WHAT it actually is!

1. Protection: Self-defense doesn’t just mean physical strength. It is an art/technique which acts like a boost to our physical strength into fighting out of rough situations. Martial arts like Karate, Muay Thai, Krav Maga, Wing Chun, Jiu jitsu, etc are one of the best ways possible to train your body for any danger!

2. Self-Respect and Confidence: Many people have an unconfident nature which can be a result of a past experience or the daily, scary news that we hear everyday. Learning martial arts not just gives immense confidence but also teaches the individual how to respect oneself. Our conscious becomes more attached to our body and soul because we now know how to protect ourselves or others around us who are not very capable of doing so for themselves.

3. Body-control and Discipline: This type of training requires a lot of concentration from your mind and body. To be able to do two or more things/steps at once without falling over is taught through this training. The daily practice of these art forms tames our body to balance itself without our conscious effort. It accumulates discipline through regular basis of practice and training. It makes our mind more focused and centered.

4. Fighter Reflexes and Awareness: With training, the individual develops fighter like reflexes to block an attack and within split seconds, strike back with power. In a fight, fast movements and reactions are key to survival and defeating the opponent. When we train our body for these things, it automatically trains our mind to be aware of our surroundings. We can be confident under any circumstance.

5. Goal Setting and Overall Positivity: We join the class with a goal to protect our self. We go back every day with a purpose and eventually, we realize we have immense power and confidence. This helps us in setting higher goals we thought we couldn’t achieve. The whole process brings out the positive side of us, the side we always wanted to see and be. It is not necessary for us to succeed in every field but just the positive thought of making it happen, is a success in itself. So let the ninja out of you NOW!
