Kolkata: Voting is taking place today for the first phase in West Bengal and Assam. The number of voters in the first phase in both the states is over 1.54 crores. In Bengal, polling is being held in 30 constituencies in 5 districts in the first phase. In West Bengal, voters are showing tremendous enthusiasm. According to the Election Commission, 55.27 per cent polling has been recorded till 3 pm in 30 seats in the first phase. Meanwhile, BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has said that this is the first election in six years in which there was less violence and people voted boldly. After meeting election commission officials, he said, "We had come to thank and advise the Election Commission that if the listed anti-social elements were arrested before the election, 10 percent of the polling stations would not be in the second phase." On the other hand, Sisir Adhikari, father of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, cast his vote in Kontai. Voting is taking place in the first phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal today. Recently, Sisir has also joined the BJP. Even after the outbreak of the Corona virus, most voters and activists of political parties are seen without masks. At some polling stations, voters were given masks while in most places sanitizers and polythene gloves were given. Voting will continue till 6 pm.
