68th National Film Awards: Asha Parekh receives Dadasaheb Phalke Award, PM Modi reacts

One of the most prestigious awards in India, The National Film Awards have announced. The Dadasaheb Phalke award was bestowed upon Asha Parekh in the year 2020.  The actress received her award from the President of India Droupadi Murmu on Friday since the award ceremony was delayed by a year on account of the covid. The award has come to Asha Parekh just a day before her 80th birthday.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated Asha Parekh ji on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke award. In a reply to a tweet by the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu the Prime Minister tweeted: “Asha Parekh Ji is an outstanding film personality. In her long career, she has shown what versatility is. I congratulate her on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke award.”

Asha Parekh who started her career as a leading lady in the year 1959 with 'Dil Deke Dekho' had worked as a child artist earlier in many movies. The actress then went on to do some noteworthy work in films like 'Teesri Manzil', 'Kati Patang', 'Caravan' and 'Chirag'. She also starred in regional films across languages, including Gujarati, Punjabi and Kannada films. She was a part of Punjabi films like Kankan De Ohle, opposite Dharmendra and Lambhardarni with Dara Singh.  Her popular films Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961), Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon (1963), Teesri Manzil (1966), Baharon Ke Sapne (1967), Pyar Ka Mausam, Do Badan (1966), Chirag (1969) and Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki, among many others.
