Congress demand left should withdraw its candidates from Wayanad

New Delhi: On Monday, The decision by Congress to field Gandhi from Wayanad, in addition to his parliamentary constituency of Amethi, has left the Communist Party of India (Marxist) fuming, which has dubbed the move as Congress’ fight “against the Left in Kerala.” Congress said that the Left should withdraw its candidate from Wayanad in Kerala, as its party president Rahul Gandhi will be contesting from the constituency for the upcoming 2019 elections.

Notably, Congress is in alliance with CPI (M) across India, except for Kerala. The CPM should decide whether they are ready to pull out their candidate from Wayanad. CPM will be reduced to their lowest tally in terms of their seats are considered after the LS polls. They are being wiped out of all the states and not it will be from Kerala.”

Here it is to be noted that speaking on this, Kerala Congress chief Mullapally Ramachandran said that it was for the Left to decide if they want to fight Congress from Wayanad. He said, “CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Amit Shah has the same tone when it comes to criticising Rahul on Amethi seat. Congress on Sunday announced that party chief Gandhi, who has traditionally only contested from party bastion Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, has consented to fight the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from two seats. In a statement, the party said that the move to contest from a second seat was necessitated to express solidarity with the southern part of India where the lifestyle and culture have been "attacked" by the BJP government.

However it is worth mention here that the move, however, did not go down well with Congress ally CPI(M), which mocked the decision as "pappu strike." Kerala Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the Congress' decision as a "fight against Left" and stated that Gandhi should have contested from a seat where Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is fighting from. He said, “He is fighting in one of the 20 constituencies (in Kerala) and doesn't need to be seen as any different. We'll fight him. He should've contested from a constituency where BJP is contesting, it's nothing but a fight against Left.”
