A Glorious Journey: Remembering the Remarkable Achievements of MS Dhoni on his Birthday

New Delhi: The most renowned wicket-keeper batsman “the finisher” MS Dhoni turns 42 today. MS Dhoni was born on 7th July 1981 in Ranchi,Jharkhand.He was captain of the Indian National Team in limited-overs formats from 2007 to 2017 and in Test cricket from 2008 to 2014. He plays as a right-handed wicket-keeper-batsman and is also the current captain of Chennai Super kings in IPL.

Here are some achievements of Mahendra Singh Dhoni:

Awards:-

1. 2008 and 2009 ICC ODI Player of the Year

2. He was awarded as fourth-highest civilian honor in India in 2009 i.e Padma Shri.

3. Gandhi, Rajiv Khel Ratna, India's top sports award in 2007–08.

4. De Montfort University awarded an honorary doctorate in August 2011.

5. The Padma Bhushan, which was given as the third-highest civilian honor in India in 2018.

Indian Team Success Under Captain Dhoni:-

1. India won the ICC World Twenty20 in 2007.

2. The 2010 and 2016 Asia Cups

3. The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and

4. The 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

M.S. Dhoni led the Indian team until 2016, having taken over as captain for the first ICC World Twenty20, which was played in South Africa in September 2007. Dhoni led the Indian team in test matches from 2008 to 2014.

 

Dhoni's ODI Career Records:-

After Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni became the fourth Indian player to reach 10,000 runs in ODIs. Dhoni required 273 innings to reach his 10,000 run milestone.

He joined the exclusive 10000-run club in ODI history, becoming only the 12th player. Dhoni has played 297 innings and completed 10,773 ODI runs so far. Dhoni has an ODI average of 50.58 and has scored 10 hundreds and 73 half-centuries.

 

Dhoni's records in ODIs:-

1. Dhoni has won 100 games total, making him the third skipper (and the first non-Australian) to do so.

2. Most career runs (4031) scored in ODIs when batting at position six.

3. The first Indian to hit 200 sixes in ODIs, and seventh overall.

4. The best score by a wicketkeeper is 183*, which Dhoni scored in 2005 against Sri Lanka.

5. Dhoni is the Indian wicket-keeper with the most dismissals in an innings (six) and career (432) history.

6. Dhoni has the most ODI career stumpings (123) compared to any wicket-keeper.

7. The fourth wicketkeeper in the world to reach 300 ODI catches and the first wicketkeeper from India to do so.

8. The first player with a career average of above 50 to surpass 10,000 runs in ODI cricket.

9. He is the only player (Dhoni had two centuries at number 7) to surpass 100 runs in an ODI while batting at position seven or lower.

10. Number of not outs in an ODI (84).

Dhoni's Test Match Records:-

With the help of six hundreds and 33 half-centuries, M.S. Dhoni has played 90 Test matches in his career and scored 4,876 runs in 144 innings at a 38.09 average.

In a test match, MS Dhoni's highest score was 224, which he made in Chennai against Australia.

1. The Indian side led the Test cricket rankings for the first time in 2009 under the leadership of M.S. Dhoni.

2. Dhoni, who surpassed Sourav Ganguly's record of 21 victories, is the most successful Indian Test captain with a total of 27 victories.

3.M.S. Dhoni is the first wicketkeeper from India to score 4,000 test runs.

4. M.S. Dhoni is the Indian captain with the third-highest score with 224 against Australia in Chennai.

5. M.S. Dhoni tops the list of Indian wicket-keepers' all-time dismissals with 294 throughout his career.

6. In Faisalabad, Dhoni hit his first century against Pakistan, doing so in 148 balls, the fourth-fastest century ever by an Indian wicket-keeper.

7. Dhoni and Syed Kirmani hold the records for the most dismissals in an inning (6) and a game (9) respectively by a wicketkeeper.

 

T20I records:-

In 98 T20I games, Dhoni Dhoni has amassed 1617 runs at an average of 37.6, but only two half-centuries.

1. In T20Is, most victories (41) as captain.

2. In T20Is, most games (72) played both as captain and wicket-keeper.

3. In T20Is, the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper (87).

4. The number of innings in a T20I (84) without a duck.

5. In T20Is, most catches (54) by a wicketkeeper.

6. In T20I innings, the wicket-keeper made the most (5) catches.

 

IPL Records:-

1. Batting a half-century in the IPL at five different positions.

2. The only player to score 500+ runs in the IPL's 20th over

3. The only captain in IPL history to win 100+ games.
