Berlin: A Syrian man was found guilty by a German court on Tuesday of torturing prisoners while he was a part of the Daesh organisation in Syria.
Raed E. was found guilty by the Berlin regional court of war crimes, affiliation with a foreign terrorist group, and other offences. It gave the defendant, whose last name was withheld due to German privacy laws, an 11-year prison term.
The 32-year-old allegedly joined the Daesh organisation in 2014 and took part in deliberate attacks against the Shueitat tribe in the eastern Syrian province of Deir Ezzor.

At the trial, a man who was imprisoned and tortured by the defendant gave testimony. The accused departed Syria in 2015 and arrived in Germany, where he was detained in 2017.

The decision may be challenged.
