A woman and her niece killed a 19-year-old housemaid by pouring hot water, on Wednesday. The duo was arrested on Thursday night. The police sources said that, the victim, Mahalakhsmi of Andhra Pradesh was working as a maid in Murugantham’s (50) house in Besant Nagar for past five years. As Murugantham has another house in Kancheepuram, he would go there and stay often with the family. On Thursday, he went to Shasthri Nagar police station and informed his house maid had died of sickness, on Wednesday. The police rushed to the house and sent the body to a government hospital for post-mortem. Meanwhile, the police grew suspicious as the body had burn injuries. In a preliminary investigation, it transpired that the Murugantham’s wife Sushmitha (45) and her niece Mithra (21) poured hot water three days ago in Kancheepuram house. The victim had beaten Murugantham’s son Jaibalaji (10) while they were playing three days ago. The boy complained about this to his mother. Angry with the maid’s action, the woman and her niece allegedly poured the hot water on Mahalakhsmi.” According to the police the family, without admitting her to a hospital, brought her to Besant Nagar house and treated her themselves for the past three days. But Mahalakhsmi died of deep burn injuries forcing the family to lie to the police. After the investigation, the police arrested Sushmitha and Mithra. The police also interrogating Murugantham.
