New Delhi: Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court against freebies. Ashwini Upadhyay has filed a PIL in the Supreme Court demanding that the recognition of the parties declaring freebies be cancelled. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of Delhi and Punjab has also approached the Supreme Court against this petition of Ashwini Upadhyay. AAP has filed an intervention petition in the apex court against Ashwini Upadhyay's PIL. Through this petition, AAP has also demanded to make itself a party in this matter. The AAP has termed the announcements of providing free goods or facilities to the public as the democratic and constitutional right of political parties. The AAP has also questioned the intention of petitioner Ashwini Upadhyay, calling him a member of the BJP. AAP has appealed to the apex court through an intervention petition that its side should also be heard in the case and Ashwini Upadhyay's petition should be dismissed. AAP has also told the Supreme Court that it is the responsibility of the public welfare government to provide facilities like free water, electricity, transport, and healthcare to the public. The AAP termed Upadhyay's petition as contrary to the supreme court's earlier verdict that the hands, heart and intentions of the PIL filer should be clear. AAP has said that here this PIL has been filed from a political point of view. Questioning the intention of the petitioner, the AAP has also referred to the observations of the Supreme Court quoting media reports, in which the court had lashed out at Ashwini Upadhyay, who filed the PIL. The intervention petition filed by AAP also states that Ashwini Upadhyay's PIL wants judicial action on specific economic and financial development models as well as schemes for the collective welfare of the public. If the issue is to lose the taxpayers' tax-laden public exchequer, then the central and many state governments themselves also give subsidies to big business houses. They are also distributed for free. It is wrong to assume that elected public representatives are indifferent to the public exchequer and public interest. Not all election tactics are.
