“Aap Bolne Kab Dete Ho..”, Renuka Sahane lashes out at people who are questioning Me too victims

Renuka Shahane is one of the renowned faces in Bollywood. She played Salman’s sister in Law in Hum Aapke Hai Koun. She became a household name by a Doordarshan show. She used to get thousands of letters daily from her listeners. In a recent interview the actress talks about Me too moment and how women are asked to be silent.

In a recent interview she was asked if people were questioning Me too moment. To this the actress said, “In fact, ‘mat bolo (don't say anything)’ is something that women are told so often from childhood. I feel that catharsis is necessary. MeToo was very important because if not anything else, that collective feeling of catharsis that a lot of women went through for what they had gone through maybe 10 years, 25 years ago. People say ‘why after 25 years?’ Arey aap bolne kab dete ho? (When do you let women speak?)."

The actress speaking about the Me too moment further added, "Maximum abuse happens within families and if a child– whether a boy or a girl — tells the parents, how many parents are willing to give up on their elders or family relationships on the basis of what the child has said? So I think it starts from there. You made to feel guilty about something that you have no business feeling guilty about. The perpetrator has to feel guilty."

Renuka has been a household name since the 90s when she was a host on the Doordarshan show Surabhi. She went on to star in shows such as Kora Kagaz, Sailaab, and YouTube show What The Folks. The actor, who was last seen as Vicky Kaushal's mother in Govinda Naam Mera (2022). She made her first Hindi film as director with the Netflix film starring Kajol, Tanvi Azmi and Mithila Palkar.
