Washington: The 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics has been awarded to India's Abhijeet Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kramer. All three economists have been awarded the Nobel for their efforts towards reducing international poverty. Abhijeet Banerjee is a professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, known in the US as MIT. Abdul Latif Jamil Poverty Action Lab was jointly established by Abhijeet Banerjee. He is educated at University of Calcutta, JNU and Harvard University. He received his PhD from Harvard in 1988. Abhijeet's first marriage was with MIT professor Dr Arundhati Banerjee. Both grew up together in Calcutta. However, in the year 1991, both of them got divorced. After this, Abhijeet married Esther Duflo in 2015. Esther, who won the Nobel alongside Abhijeet, is also a professor at MIT.
