Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and party chief Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee has cautioned party leaders against strong strategy and corruption in West Bengal panchayats. Bengal is going to have rural elections next year. For the past week, Abhishek Banerjee held meetings with the district leadership of Behar, North Dinajpur, Nadia, Malda, South Dinajpur, and Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri districts. TMC is closely monitoring its activities. It is being told that Abhishek is going to hold a similar meeting with the leaders of other districts in the coming days. A party leader has said 'Our party leader Abhishek Banerjee has clearly said that the party will not tolerate the use of any strong strategy and violence to win the panchayat elections.' He has said that if anyone violates the order of the party, strict action will be taken against him. He has asked the party leaders to stay away from squabbles and work as a team. With the emphasis on strengthening the party ahead of the crucial panchayat elections next year, presidents were fielded and many new faces were brought in. A local TMC leader has told that Abhishek Banerjee has emphasized that the party is confident of winning the people's mandate on the back of the development work done in the last 11 years since being in power in Bengal. The party leader said that 'Banerjee has pointed out that situations like the 2018 panchayat elections should not be repeated, as the party had to bear the heavy brunt for those excesses in the 2019 parliamentary elections.'
