14-year-old boy crushed to death by a bull in Jallikattu

Chennai: A child died while watching the Jallikattu festival in Tamil Nadu. The incident took place in Dharmapuri. Here a 14-year-old child was crushed by a bull. He had come to see the festival with his relatives. This is the fourth death during Jallikattu this year. The event was held at Thadangam village. At the time of the incident, Gokul had gone to watch Jallikattu with his relatives. Then a bull hit him in the stomach, due to which he was badly injured.

Gokul was immediately rushed to Dharmapuri government hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead. Dharmapuri police have started investigating the case. The CCTV footage installed at the event is being examined to find out how Gokul was injured. Gokul is the fourth person to die in a Jallikattu-related accident this year. Jallikattu is a popular sport played during the Pongal crop in mid-January.

The winner is decided by how long the bull-tamer manages to hold on to the hump till it crosses the 'finish line', then the bull-tamer is declared the winner. It is commonly practiced in Tamil Nadu as part of Mattoo Pongal, which takes place on the third day of the 4-day harvest festival. The Tamil word 'Mattoo' means bull, and the third day of Pongal is dedicated to cattle, which are a main participant in farming.
