Actor ‘Raj Babbar’ is the new Congress chief in UP

New Delhi ,13 July: The Congress party is reaching out to different Communities in Poll-bound UP(Utter Pradesh),trying to win back voters is lost or regional parties over a period of more than two decades.

“Babbar, 64, was born in Tundla, Uttar Pradesh and is a native of the state perhaps a factor in his appointment”.

On Tuesday, Congress appointed actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar, an OBC leader, as the chief of its state unit, and named senior vice presidents to ramp up its state organisation, party general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi and its Uttar Pradesh in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters.

“It is a big responsibility which I will take up not as a challenge but as a mission,” he told govt.”

"Raj Babbar was born in UP and has been a member of Parliament from UP in both houses," Mr Azad pointed out, also naming three vice presidents in UP including controversial politician Imran Masood, who was jailed in 2014 for a hate speech against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said the party would announce its candidate for chief minister only once the campaign for UP begins and also refused to talk about a lead role in it for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, daughter of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, amid speculation over her hour-long meeting with Mr Azad at his residence this afternoon. Azad said the actor-turned-politician is “above caste and has an appeal” across the country.
