Ad maker of Liril and Hamara Bajaj, Alyque Padamsee dies at 90, President Kovind tweets condolences

Alyque Padamsee, who was well known for his role as Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the film Gandhi, left for heavenly abode today at age of 90 years.

Padamsee was usually regarded as the Father of modern Indian advertising. He founded Lintas, which is considered one of the top advertising agencies in the nation. He was the man who gave India one of the  best and iconic ads. His famous ads for small screen are  Liril with the girl in the waterfall, Hamara Bajaj, the Kamasutra couple  among others such memorable commercials.

He made his stage debut at the age of 7 in Merchant of Venice, a William Shakespeare play. It was directed by his brother Bobby Padamsee.

The first play that he directed was Taming of The Shrew.Several well-known celebrities have poured in their condolences.

President Kovind also expressed his condolences, “Sorry to hear of the passing of Alyque Padamsee, creative guru, theatre personality and doyen of our ad industry. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues”.

Actres Nimrat Kaur tweeted, “Deepest condolences and prayers for the family and loved ones of #AlyquePadamsee sir...a true pioneer. May he rest in peace”.

Nilakshi Sengupta tweeted, “Another legend becomes star dust. RIP Alyque padamsee”.

Ashok Lalla, “I never worked with  #AlyquePadamsee, but was fortunate to work with his protégé, Anand Halve, who Alyque called his *brainiest trainee*.Andy, you can now raise a toast with your mentor.
