ADG gives clarification in Hathras case, says Funeral was done with family's consent

Lucknow: UP ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar has said that the funeral of the dead body of the Hathras gang-rape victim has not been done by the police. In a special conversation with the media, Prashant Kumar said that the body was cremated only after the consent of the family members. He said that the body was decaying due to the delay.

The family members of the victim were also present at the funeral. Continuing his talk, ADG Prashant Kumar said that the district administration had tweeted about the last rites of the victim that her last rites were done in presence of the family. He said that the victim had died on the morning of 29 September and the body was decaying after the post-mortem. Keeping this in mind, the local administration cremated the victim with the consent of the family.

He said that maybe the women of the family had any objection to the funeral on the night, but the body was decaying it cannot be kept for another day. Prashant Kumar said that many things have to be taken care of in the society. He said that the police did not force themselves in this case.

ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar said that SIT has been formed so that there is transparency in this case. They have told that local authorities should be trusted. When the magistrate has told that the last rites have been done with the consent of the family, we should believe it. He told what would have happened if the dead body had decayed due to the delay in funeral.
