Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announces split captaincy for different formats

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced a big decision to sack Asghar Afghan as the captain of the national team, while announcing three different captain for respective formats.

Ahead of the 2019 ICC world CUP, ACB has announced splits captaincy for different formats. Gulbadin Naib has been announced as the ODI captain and will now lead the team at the World Cup. Rahmat Shah has been picked to captain the team in the Tests while Rashid Khan has been selected for the T20Is.

Earlier, Asghar had replaced Mohammad Nabi as captain of the team in 2015, and had helped the team get Full member's status by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Under his guidance, the team also secured a historic maiden Test triumph over Ireland this year in March in Dehradun.

 Asghar has led the team to 33 ODI victories as the captain, including a successful progression from the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2018 to the World Cup finals after a victorious performance against West Indies in the final in Zimbabwe. Afghan has also been impressive in the shortest format, winning 37 out of 59 matches.

Ahead of worlcup, Afghanistan will tour Scotland and Ireland in May - where they will take on the two sides in two ODI matches each. They will then face Pakistan and England in one-off ODIs before beginning their maiden ICC World Cup journey on June 1.
