Presidential elections can be held in Afghanistan again

Kabul: Recently, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani may have managed to save his chair in the preliminary results announced on Sunday, December 22, 2019, but his difficulties do not seem to be diminishing. The Election Complaints Commission of Afghanistan said on Monday that it has received many complaints which it is reviewing. At the same time, it is believed that if the percentage of Ghani's votes in the Grievance Commission review is less than 50 per cent, then there can be a contest between the two top contenders (Gani and Abdullah-Abdullah).

Sources say that Ghani got 50.64 percent votes in the preliminary results of the presidential election announced on Sunday, about three months after the voting. While his nearest rival Abdullah-Abdullah got 39.52 percent votes. Deen Muhammad Azmi, Deputy Chief of the Election Grievances Commission said, there is a lot of possibility that the second phase elections will be held. Complaints and objections need a thorough review. This may take up to five weeks.

Let us tell you that Ghani has welcomed the decision of the Independent Election Commission (IEC). But Abdullah-Abdullah has demanded a review of the entire election. Abdullah said on Sunday, there is no doubt that if valid votes are counted then I will win. The current situation is reminiscent of 2014 when Ghani and Abdullah accused each other of massive fraud. Later, the US made Ghani the President, and Abdullah-Abdullah was appointed the Chief Executive, taking the path of reconciliation.
