Afghanistan is devastated by heavy snowfall, killing 11 and injuring 23

According to media reports, heavy snow started falling over Afghanistan earlier this week, triggering avalanches and floods, killing 11 people and injuring 23 others.

Taliban-led Afghan government officials, reported that 90 percent of the country's area was affected by snow or rain, resulting in financial losses as well as deaths and injuries. Helmand, Nimroz, Farah, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Jawzjan, Takhar, and Kabul have all reported casualties.

Officials from the Ministry of Disaster Management said they had rescued a number of persons who became stuck as a result of the floods.

Several highways have been clogged by recent heavy snow and rain, and flights to Kabul International Airport have been cancelled.
