Afghanistan receives first consignment of medicines from India

Afghanistan: On December 11, India made a big gesture by sending the first cargo of medications as part of humanitarian assistance to help the Taliban-ruled Afghanistan deal with the country's deteriorating health situation.

India has refused to recognise the Taliban government in Afghanistan and has urged the international community to proceed with caution in dealing with the Taliban due to its adamant stance on human rights issues.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the consignment was delivered on December 10 on a special Kam Air aircraft that brought 10 Indians and 94 Afghan minority group members to the country. "The drugs will be handed over to World Health Organization (WHO) representatives in Kabul and administered in the Indira Gandhi Children's Hospital in Kabul," the Ministry noted in a statement.

This is the first time India has supplied humanitarian aid to Afghanistan since the Taliban overthrew President Ashraf Ghani's government in August.
